The native american removal was a huge act in the 1800's. This act was proposed by President Andrew Jackson . Jackson prompted Congress to pass the removal act, a bill that forced Native Americans to leave the United States and settle in the Indian territory west of the Mississippi river. It was than in the year 1832 that a band of Cherokees banded together as an independent nation, and challenged this legislation in the U.S. courts. Surprisingly the supreme court ruled in favor of the cherokees. Although sadly some indian tribes signed treaties giving there land to the federal government anyways.
